THE TROUTBECK AREA
The Troutbeck valley is a beautiful spot, convenient for the Lake District, north and south, but also slightly off the beaten track with plenty of open space, woodlands and fells to explore. It is easily accessed from the main A591 road along Windermere or from the north and Ullswater via the Kirkstone Pass.
“We’ve lived in this valley since 2006 and we love it. There are walks in all directions from your doorstep, some over the passes and fells, others along quiet valleys but all with great views and the tranquillity that so many visitors appreciate.”

Limefitt Park has been in the valley since the 1950s and has a good reputation for quality accommodation and excellent facilities. It is in a fantastic position amongst the fells and makes an ideal base for exploring the Lake District. Facilities include a reception and night time security as well as a dog walking field, a children’s play park, the Haybarn pub and a shop for essentials. You can also book activities like horse riding, mountain biking and water sports locally.
Troutbeck village has two popular inns – The Mortal Man Inn and The Queen’s Head Hotel – as well as a Post Office, village store and tea shop. Jesus Church is an attraction for lovers of the Arts and Crafts movement as its stained glass was designed and made by William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones and Ford Madox Brown. Finally, Townend is a 17th century yeoman farmer’s house, now open to the public and owned by the National Trust.
Beyond the immediate valley, the lakes, fells and attractions of the Lake District are there to be explored too.
